About Romário
Romário is mostly described as one of the best soccer players ever. Throughout his playing days, he featured for a number of clubs including PSV Eindhoven, Barcelona, and Vasco da Gama.
Mostly played as a striker, Romario represented the Brazilian senior national team on several occasions and played in some high profile tournaments like the FIFA World Cup.
After retiring, he entered into politics and became a member of the Chamber of Deputies in 2010. Four years later, he was elected as the Senator for Rio de Janeiro.
Family
His official name is Romário de Souza Faria. His parents, Manuela Ladislau and Edevair de Souza Faria were pivotal in the development of his career. His children are called Danielle Favatto, and Romarinho, who’s also a soccer player.
Achievements
He helped the Brazilian national team to win the 1994 edition of the FIFA World Cup, which took place in the USA. Later that year, he was crowned the ‘Player of the Year’ by FIFA. His other awards include ‘Pichichi Trophy’ and ‘Golden Foot Legends Award’.
Trivia
He’s also a fan of beach soccer and represented his country at the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in 2005.
