Background
He was married to Carmen Valverde. They had a child together. They divorced and he married Dr. Renee Hartmann much later in his life.
Political Journey
Rómulo was exiled after relentless activism against the government while he was a student at the University of Caracas. He sojourned in Costa Rica for close to a decade before returning.
He helped form the Acción Democrática on his return in 1941 on its ticket won the presidential elections. His elected successor was overthrown by a military junta. Rómulo again went into exile.
Rómulo returned to Venezuela a decade later after the military regime was ousted to again take over the reins of leadership. He left office in 1964 but remained a pivotal player in Venezuelan politics for a long time.
Rómulo died at age 77 while in New York.
