About Ronald Searle
Ronald Searle was best known as the originator of the comic strip series titled “St Trinian's”. The English artist, illustrator and sculptor became very popular in the 1950s when his works were featured in publications like Punch, and Holiday.
His frequent collaborations with English writer Geoffrey Willans further increased his popularity. The two were credited as the developers of the “Molesworth” series. Some of his most popular works were titled “Dick Dead Eye” and “Ronald Searle's Big Fat Cat Book”.
Family
His dad was a worker of the Cambridge Railway Station.
Education
He had his training at Anglia Ruskin University (then known as Cambridge College of Arts and Technology). Prior to that, he studied at Parkside School.
Laurels
His works earned him accolades like the Reuben Award, and the Advertising and Illustration Award by the National Cartoonists Society. In 2004, he was appointed as the Commander of the Order of the British Empire. He was also honored with the Chevalier de la Légion d'honneur five years later.
Trivia
He influenced the drawing style of English singer John Lennon.
As a medalist, he worked on the delegates’ medals used at the FIDEM XXIII Congress London in 1992.
