American publicist Ronni Chasen was widely known for the management of various actors, most famous among them Michael Douglas. Chasen also made her name known for representing popular musicians such as Hans Zimmer. Chasen was well sought after up until she died in 2010.
Early Life
The publicist was born into a Jewish family and discovered her talent as a publicist when she ran her brothers' publicity page in 1973 for a Blaxploitation movie called "Hell Up in Harlem."
Career
Buoyed on by her professionalism, her name soon spread across Hollywood, and she soon became the go-to publicist for successful franchises such as "On Golden Pond" in 1981, “Wall Street 2: Money Never Sleeps" in 2010, and “Welcome Back Kotter".
Chasen also directed the Oscar campaign for the movie "Driving Miss Daisy" in 1989. The movie later won an Academy Award for Best Picture in 1990. She also rose to the position of Senior Vice President for Publicity at Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer in 1993 and owned the public relations firm Chasen & Co.
Controversy Surrounding Her Death
The publicist met her untimely death in 2010 after she received three gunshot wounds to the chest and back. The culprit, Harold Martin Smith, later shot himself to death after being apprehended by the police.
