Roosevelt Grier’s life has been nothing short of interesting. The former professional football player was once a member of the Fearsome Four during his time with the Los Angeles Rams. He also played a crucial role in the history of America and in 1983, became an ordained minister.
Childhood & Career
Grier grew up in Cuthbert, Georgia and had 11 siblings. He attended Penn State University, where he excelled in track and field, as well as football. In 1955, he was drafted by the New York Giants and led the team to the NFL Championship title the following year. Grier later joined the Rams from 1963-1967. He is the last surviving member of the Fearsome Four.
Life after Football
He worked several jobs after retiring from football, with his most notable being the bodyguard of the then-presidential candidate, Robert F. Kennedy. He also subdued Kennedy’s shooter, Sirhan during Kennedy’s assassination. He was also active in the media and hosted the “Rosey Grier Show”. He also appeared in several TV shows and films, and also released songs.
Family
Grier was first married to Bernice Lewis and then to Margie Grier. He had three children. He is also related to the actress Pam Grier.
