Roy Acuff was a musical icon of American descent – he was a country music promoter and singer and has even been referred to as the ‘King of Country Music’ at a point in time.
Personal Life
His birth name was Roy Claxton Acuff and he was the daughter of Simon E. Neill Acuff by Ida Carr. He had four siblings and belonged to an influential family. When it was time for him to go to school, his parents got him into Central High school where he joined the choir. From there, he got a chance to go to Carson-Newman University on scholarship but he turned down the offer.
Career
It is believed that his father, a fiddler, and his mother, a pianist, could have encouraged him to go into music. Some of Acuff’s best albums are “Songs of the Smoky Mountains”, “That Glory Bound Train”, “Star of the Grand Ole Opry” and “Treasury of Country Hits”.
Death
He suffered from congestive heart failure as an adult and passed away at the age of eighty-nine.
