In 1936, after college, Roy Plunkett joined E.I. du Pont de Nemours and Company as one of their research chemists. He came into the limelight two years later when he mistakenly produced the material which would be known as Teflon (also referred to as polytetrafluoroethylene). He also helped in the production of other materials like the tetraethyllead, and the Freon

He married his first wife Dorothy Enola Detrick in 1935. Three decades later, he exchanged marriage vow with Lous Mary Koch.
Education
He read chemistry at Manchester University. The celebrated scientist continued his education at Ohio State University.
Recognitions
In 1951, he was celebrated with the John Scott Medal. His invention earned him a place in the National Inventors Hall of Fame, and the Plastics Hall of Fame.
Trivia
He came up with the Teflon material while he was trying to produce a chlorofluorocarbon refrigerant.
