About Roy Rogers
Roy Rogers was the stage name of American singer, actor and television host, Leonard Franklin Slye. His early work in show business included performing as a member of a popular radio group. He was also a founding member of the Western music group, Sons of the Pioneers, through which he became a national music star with songs such as “Cool Water”.
Rogers was also a popular film and television star, known best for his television series “The Roy Rogers Show”.
Family Life
He and his elder sister, Mary, were born to Andrew Slye and Mattie Womack. His first marriage in 1933 to Lucile Ascolese ended in divorce after three years. His second wife, Grace Wilkins died in 1946 while giving birth to their second child. Actress Dale Evans was his wife from 1947 until his death.
Achievements
He has a star each for motion pictures, television and radio on the Hollywood Walk of Fame. He is also an inductee of the Country Music Hall of Fame and Western Performers Hall of Fame.
Death
He died on 6 July 1998 of congestive heart failure.
