About Rube Goldberg
Rube Goldberg was an American cartoonist and inventor best remembered for his cartoons that depicted complicated devices performing simple tasks, known as Rube Goldberg machines. He is also known for being the inventor of the popular cartoon character Professor Lucifer Gorgonzola Butts. In 1948, he won the prestigious Pulitzer Prize for his editorial cartoon Peace Today. He was also an accomplished sculptor and engineer.
Family Life
He was the third of the seven children born to Hannah and Max Goldberg. In 1916, he got married to Irma Seeman, who bore him two children: Thomas and George W. George. The latter became a well-known theater and film producer.

In the Merriam-Webster dictionary, the phrase "Rube Goldberg" means to do a simple task in a complicated way, which is not really necessary.
During World War II, he insisted that his sons change their surnames in order to be free from the hatred certain people had for him as a result of his political cartoons.
He was one of the founders of the National Cartoonists Society as well as its first president.
