About Rubén Darío
Rubén Darío was a highly-rated Nicaraguan poet credited for being the originator of the “modernism” literary movement. He was one of the prominent names in Spanish literature during the 20th century. Some of his most popular poems were titled “Prosas profanas y otros poemas”, “España Contemporánea” and “Azul...”.
Political career
Aside from his literary work, he also served in many political positions. During his active years, he served in positions like the Resident Minister of Foreign Affairs in Spain, and Consul of Nicaragua in Paris.
Family
He was the son of Rosa Sarmiento and Manuel García. His siblings were Félix Rubén and Cándida Rosa. He was the husband of Francisca Sánchez del Pozo. Before that, he had married Rosario Murillo and Rafaela Contreras, who died in 1893.
Trivia
During his time in Argentina, he worked as a journalist.
He published his maiden poem at the age of 13 years.
