Ruhollah Khomeini was an Iranian politician and religious leader.

He was the leader of the 1979 Iranian Revolution and, after that, he became the country's Supreme Leader, which is the highest ranking political and religious authority in the Islamic Republic of Iran. He also wrote more than 40 law books. Time magazine named him Man Of The Year in 1979.

He was married to Khadijeh Saqafi and they had 7 children and 15 grandchildren. During his life, he suffered from many kinds of cancer and had several heart attacks. He died of intestinal cancer and a heart attack in 1989, at the age of 86.
