About Ruslana
Ruslana, known in private life as Ruslana Stepanivna Lyzhychko, is considered as Ukraine’s most successful international female artiste. The multi-award-winning singer shot to fame in 1996 when she won the “Slavianski Bazaar” contest.
Two years later, she issued her maiden album which was under the title “Myt Vesny – Dzvinkyi Viter”. In 2013, she released her seventh album dubbed “My Boo”. At the 2004 edition of the Eurovision Song Contest, she performed her single titled "Wild Dances" which won her the contest.
Political career
A member of the Our Ukraine Party, this singer has held different political positions over the years. She was voted into the Verkhovna Rada in 2006 and later served as the People's Deputy of Ukraine.
Family
This celebrity is one of the daughters of Nina Sapegina and Stepan Lyzhychko. She shared some memorable moments with her sister Hanna Lyzhychko. She has been married to Oleksandr Ksenofontov, a record producer, since 1995.
Education
She was trained at the Lviv Conservatory.
Awards
She has been decorated with many laurels such as the Atlantic Council’s Distinguished Leadership Award, the World Music Award, and the Woman of Courage Award by the United States Secretary of State.
Trivia
In 2004, she was named as Ukraine’s UNICEF Goodwill Ambassador.
Aside from singing, she’s also known to be a voice-actress, instrumentalist, and songwriter.
