Background & Early Career
Watson is a former student of Irlam Endowed Primary School. Prior to his singing career, he worked as a bolt cutter in a UK “Youth Opportunities Programme.”
However, his career catapulted when a secretary at the “Working Men’s Club” suggested he perform “Nessun Dorma” at the club. Despite not having any classical training as a singer, he took the opportunity and was eventually encouraged to attempt more classical works. He then won the Piccadilly Radio contest, “Search for a Star” in 1990.
Career Highlights
1999 can be described as the best year for Watson’s singing career. In the year, he performed at the Wembley Stadium during the cup final of the “Rugby League Challenge,” singing “God Save the Queen.” Additionally, he performed the “Barcelona” song at Old Trafford during the last game of the English premiership season. Finally, he sang at the UEFA Champions League Final in 1999 at Camp Nou, Barcelona.
The tenor released his debut studio album, “The Voice,” in May 2001. By 2019, he had released 13 studio albums.
Personal Life
As of 2021, he was married to Louise Harris. In 2007, he underwent a successful brain tumor surgery.
