Ryan Lane, in full Ryan Thomas Lane, is a sensational and dynamic American actor and film producer. He is one of the few deaf American actors. He has starred in over ten films, TV shows, and several theatre productions since making his professional acting debut in 2007.
Early Life & Education
He was born in Fullerton, California. Unfortunately, the actor was diagnosed with congenital nerve deafness just two weeks after his birth. He enrolled in the “Los Angeles County School District,” eventually graduating from the “California School for the Deaf, Riverside (CSDR)” in 2007.
At age 18, he was involved in a serious dirt bike accident in California, which nearly crippled him.
Career Highlights
In 2007, Hollywood director David Risotto asked him to play the leading role in a documentary film for “William Ellsworth Hoy” – a deaf baseball player from the 1800s. Risotto thought Ryan shared a striking resemblance with Hoy. However, despite having no acting background, he accepted the role. During the entire production, deaf film star Deanne Bray coached Ryan and helped him memorize his lines.
After the documentary, he landed several guest appearance roles on various popular television shows such as “House,” “Miami Medical,” and “Cold Case.” He also starred in the debut “Facetime” commercial for the iPhone. In addition, between 2012 and 2017, he played recurring roles on the ABC series “Switched at Birth.”
