About Ryan Pini
Recognized as one of Papua New Guinea's most celebrated athletes, Ryan Pini is a 4-time Olympic swimmer known for using butterfly strokes.
Career Highlights
Pini made his first major international debut at the 2002 Commonwealth Games, where he made it to the semifinals. His first Olympics game was in 2004 in Athens, where he finished 18th in the 100m. At the 2006 Commonwealth Games, this swimmer made his nation proud by winning the gold medal at a record time of 52.64 for the 100m Men’s Butterfly.
He also came fifth in the 500m. Pini was Papua New Guinea’s flag bearer in the 2008 and 2016 Summer Olympics Games held in Beijing and Rio, respectively.
Ryan Pini is the second Papua New Guinea individual to win a gold medal in a Commonwealth Game or Olympic Game. In 2005, he was honored with the most excellent British order, the Member of the Order of the British Empire for his contributions to sports.

Pini tied the knot with Carly Vincenzi in 2011.
