Perez was brought up by his mother, after his father left them when he was four. He later lived with his grandmother Carmen de Diaz.
Achievements
At age 16, he had signed a $65,000 contract with the Kansas City Royals.
Between 2013 and 2016, he was the winner of the American League Gold Glove Awards.
Perez was given the World Series Most Valuable Player Award in 2015 when the Royals won the World Series championship.
