About Sam Huff
Sam Huff spent a little over a decade in the NFL where he established himself as one of the best linebackers to ever grace the league. The New York Giants drafted him into the league in 1956 and helped them to win the championship that same year. He was a regular member of the side for seven years before joining Washington Redskins in 1964.
Throughout his career in the NFL, he made it to five Pro Bowls and played in the first team of the All-Pro on two occasions.
After retirement
After his playing career, the American football legend exploited other business opportunities. In 1971, he worked as a sales executive for Marriott Corporation. He went ahead to work for his former teams as one of their color commentators.
He also entered into politics and would be widely remembered for his contest in the 1970 U.S. House of Representatives elections where he lost to Bob Mollohan.
Family
His parents were Catherine and Oral Huff. He was raised together with five siblings. He left behind three kids named Robert Jr., Catherine, and J.D.
Education
He attended the now-defunct Farmington High School before playing football for West Virginia University.
Achievements
He is a member of both the Pro Football and College Hall of Fames.
Trivia
His start in the 1956 NFL championship match made him the first linebacker to do so in his debut season.
In 1991, The Sporting News included his name in their “100 Greatest Football Players” compilation.
