About Sam Snead
Many golf lovers have described Sam Snead as perhaps the greatest player to ever participate in the sport. Throughout his professional career, which spanned for over five decades, the American golfer won both the Masters Tournament and the PGA Championship three times.
His meteoric rise to fame began in 1936 when he recorded his first success at a major competition. He ended his career with 82 PGA Tour victories, becoming the first person in the history of the sport to attain that record.
Personal Life
In 1940, he tied the knot with Audrey Karnes.
Accolades
Snead was named PGA Golfer of the Year in 1949. He also won four Vardon Trophies and in 1974 he was selected into the World Golf Hall of Fame. In 1998, he was honored with the PGA Tour Lifetime Achievement Award.
