His Legacy
He is known as "The Father of New France" and "The Father of Acadia", as he founded New France and Quebec City in 1608. He began exploring North America in 1603 and he actually was the first European to explore and map the Great Lakes. Lake Champlain is named after him, among many towns, villages and mountains in North America.
His Personal Life
He married the twelve-year-old Hélène Boullé. They had no children, but he adopted 3 Montagnais girls in 1627.
