The French actress was born in Gannat, France, where she was the seventh out of 11 children. She made her acting debut in 1983, starring in “À Nos Amours”, which earned her the César Award for Most Promising Actress.
She found international fame when she was cast as the main character in “Vagabond.” Bonnaire has had a relatively active career since the 1980s, and in 2017, starred in “Prendre le large”, for which she won an award.
As a screenwriter and director, Bonnaire’s works include “J’enrage de son absence” and “Marianne Faithfull-Fleur d’âme.”
Family Life
Bonnaire has a daughter Jeanne from her relationship with fellow actor William Hurt in the 1990s. She married Guillaume Laurant in 2003 and welcomed her second daughter Adele. The couple split in 2015. French actress Sabine Bonnaire, who starred in Bonnaire’s 2007 documentary “Elle s’appelle Sabine”, is her sister.
