Son of a major leaguer Sandy Alomar Sr., the young Alomar, who was born in Puerto Rico, made his major league debut in 1989 with the Cleveland Indians.
Career Highlights
Alomar was named Rookie of the Year, an All-Star player, and awarded the golden glove in the 1990 season. He became the third player in the history of the major league to win a golden glove award as a rookie. This catcher moved to the Chicago White Sox after spending 10 years with the Indians. He eventually hung up his boots in 2007, following his playing spell with the New York Mets. The following year, he was hired by the Mets as a catching instructor. Alomar went back to his former team the Indians as first base coach in 2009. This power catcher was inducted into the Cleveland Guardians Hall of Fame in 2009.
