Sarah Chang is one of the world’s greatest violinists. She made her debut at 8 with the New York Philharmonic and has since gone on to perform with the most prominent international conductors, orchestras, and accompanists.
Early Life and Education
The Korean-American violinist grew up with her parents in New Jersey. When Sarah was 5 years old, she was accepted into the Juilliard School. Throughout her childhood, she studied under some of the best violinists, including Isaac Stern and Dorothy DeLay. When she graduated high school, Sarah returned to Juilliard for college.
Career
Sarah Chang is regarded as a child prodigy. At 10 years old, she recorded her first music album called “Debut”, which is one of Billboard’s classical bestsellers.
Since the start of her career, Sarah has performed with the New York Philharmonic, Chicago Symphony, Vienna Philharmonic, and the Hong Kong Philharmonic Orchestra, among many others. She has also worked as a soloist under several conductors like Sir Colin Davis, Charles Dutoit, and Wolfgang Sawallisch.
Awards and Recognition
Sarah has received numerous international awards throughout her musical career, including “Artist of the Year” from Gramophone Magazine in 1993 and “Premio Internazionale” from Accademia Musicale Chigiana in Siena, Italy.
She featured as one of the top 20 women in Newsweek magazine’s “Women and Leadership, 20 Powerful Women Take Charge”. She was also recognized as a Young Global Leader by the World Economic Forum for her achievements in music. She has also been honored by Yale and Harvard University.
