About Saul Bass
Saul Bass made a name for himself as one of the most distinguished graphic designers in the United States. He became a renowned expert in the design of film title sequences, corporate logos and movie posters. His popular Hollywood title sequences include the films “Psycho”, “The Man with the Golden Arm” and “North by Northwest”. His significant corporate logos include United Airlines’ tulip logo from 1974, the 1969 Bell System logo and Continental Airlines’ jet stream logo in 1968.
Family Life
His parents were Eastern European Jewish immigrants. He was married to Ruth Cooper from 1938 to 1960. His second wife was title designer Elaine Bass. He had four children.
Achievements
He won an Academy Award for his documentary, “Why Man Creates”. Otis College of Art and Design conferred on him an honorary doctorate.
Death
He died on April 25, 1996 from non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma.
