About Saul Kripke
Saul Kripke is a renowned American philosopher whose contributions have helped in the study of the philosophy of language, modal logic, and metaphysics. He’s best known for his 1980 book titled “Naming and Necessity”, a compilation of three of his lectures.
Two years later, he published a book titled “Wittgenstein on Rules and Private Language” in which he reviewed Ludwig Wittgenstein’s work titled “Philosophical Investigations”. Kripke has also worked as a professor at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, as well as Princeton University.
Family
He is one of the children of American rabbi Myer S. Kripke and his wife Dorothy K. Kripke who was an author. His two sisters are called Netta and Madeline. He has been married to Margaret Gilbert, a British philosopher. Saul is the cousin of Eric Kripke, television producer and writer.
Education
He attended Omaha Central High School, and Dundee Grade School before joining Harvard University in 1958.
Recognitions
His works have earned him many awards including the Schock Prize in Logic and Philosophy, and Princeton University’s Howard Behrman Award.
Facts
A center at the Graduate Center of the City University of New York, named The Saul Kripke Center, has been set aside to promote and preserve his works.
