Early Life & Education
He was born into a troubled family in Newark, New Jersey. He, with 2 older brothers, was raised by a black mother. From age 4, he studied music at Newark Community School.
Career Highlight
At age 12, he made his Broadway debut as the main character of “Tap Dance Kid.” From the late 90s, he danced in the Broadway festival, “Black and Blue.” His tap dance won him a Tony Award nomination for “Best Performance.”
Personal Life
He had a son whom he welcomed with Nina. The couple tied the knot in 1993.
Awards
He was the Tony Award winner for Best Choreography in 1996.
In 1991, he received the Martin Luther King Outstanding Youth Award.
