Born I. Lewis Libby, and famously known as Scooter Libby, is a renowned American lawyer and political figure. He served in several governmental positions during the tenure of President H.W. Bush.
Background & Education
He is from an affluent Jewish family and was born in New Haven, Connecticut. In 1965 and 1968, he graduated from Eaglebrook School and Phillips Academy respectively. Libby is an alumnus of Yale University and graduated “magna cum laude” in 1972. The lawyer earned his Juris Doctor degree from Columbia Law School in 1975.
Major Governmental Positions
In 1989, he worked at the “Pentagon” as a principal deputy under the secretary for resources and strategy at the “US Defense Department.” He was an “Assistant to the President” during the administration of President H.W. Bush. Between 2001 and 2005, he was the Chief of Staff and Assistant for National Security Affairs to Vice President Dick Cheney.
Controversies
In October 2005, he resigned from all his government positions after a federal grand jury indicted him on five counts concerning the “Plame affair.” After being convicted on four counts, President Bush commuted his 30 months prison sentence but left the other parts of his sentence active. As a result, Libby’s law license was suspended from 2005 until it was reinstated in 2016.
