About Sergei Eisenstein
Sergei Eisenstein was an internationally acclaimed Soviet director and cinema theorist who pioneered montage theory and its application. His success in the films "Battleship Potemkin" and "Alexander Nevsky" earned him considerable acclaim.
Originally intending to pursue a career in the plastic arts, this naturally skilled filmmaker of Jewish descent acquired an interest in Japanese Kabuki theatre, which motivated him to seek a profession in filmmaking.
In 1923, he released his debut short film, "Glumov's," and went on to star in scores of successful and highly acclaimed films, including "Romance sentimentale," "Ivan The Terrible," and "The General Line."
