Shane Battier is an American former basketball player whose successful NBA career began in 2001 and ended in 2014, during which he played for the Memphis Grizzlies, the Houston Rockets and the Miami Heat. Prior to his NBA career, he also had a glittering college career with the Duke Blue Devils men's basketball team, where he played for four years.
Personal Life
In 2004, he and his longtime girlfriend Heidi Ufer tied the knot. The couple's first child was born in 2008. In 2011, he and Heidi welcomed another child.
Achievements
Some of his most notable achievements include winning the NBA championships twice with the Heat and winning both the Naismith College Player of the Year award and the AP College Player of the Year award in 2001.
He was also a member of the U.S. Men's basketball team that won gold at the 2001 Goodwill Games.
Trivia
Like many biracial kids, he struggled with his mixed-race heritage during his childhood. According to him, he was the only one in his school who had a white mother and a black father.
