Shari Lewis was a versatile personality. Aside from being known for her performance in television and films, she was also known for her craft as a ventriloquist and a puppeteer.
Personal life
She was born and raised by Abraham Hurwitz and Ann Ritz. She was born as Phyllis Naomi Hurwitz but she adopted the stage name Shari Lewis.
Her marriage with Stan Lewis began in 1953 but they got separated four years later. She started a new marital relationship with Jeremy Tarcher in 1958. Her daughter, Mallory Tarcher followed her footsteps and became an actress in her own right.
Career Highlight
Shortly after she started her career in 1952, she earned her first prize after her puppetry won the Arthur Godfrey’s Talent Scouts variety show. She then became a TV hostess, hosting a number of shows, including “Facts N’Fun, which aired on WRCA-TV and the “Kartoon Klub”.
The early 1960s saw her host “The Shari Lewis Show”, which was first broadcast in 1960. She made appearances in other shows, including “The Danny Kaye Show”, “Lamp Chops Play Along” and “The Charlie Horse Music Pizza”.

The American-born actress and TV personality was a multiple award winner. She won 12 Emmy Awards, 7 Parents’ Choice Awards and two Charleston Film Festival Gold Awards.
