Personal Life
Sharon Olds was raised in California together with her siblings by their alcoholic father and timid mother. He was abusive to them most of the time and they rarely received any help or support from their mother.
Her family was religious and conservative so they were limited from doing certain things including watching television or even going to the movies. Due to this, Sharon read a lot of books, which will eventually lead her to establishing a career as a poet.
She met Dr Douglas Olds as a young woman and became his wife in 1968. After about three decades of being together and two children, they went their separate ways.
Career
She is known to have worked as a professor in New York University for over four decades but before that, reading made her fall in love with poetry and she started her poetry works which earned her a lot of honors and awards. Some of her works are “The Dead and the Living”, “The Matter of This World, Slow Dancer”, “Strike Sparks: Selected Poems 1980-2002” and “One Secret Thing”.
