About Shecky Greene
American comedian and actor Shecky Greene made his first major screen performance in the 1967 film "Tony Rome”, which saw him cast as Catleg. The Illinois-born actor then went on to appear in films such as “The Love Machine”, “History of the World, Part I" and "Lovelines". He was also known for his frequent patronage of nightclubs in Las Vegas. Greene was inducted into the National Comedy Hall of Fame on March 24, 2020.
Personal Life
During World War II (WWII), he served in the US Navy and was discharged in 1944. He performed in a drama club he founded during his schooling days at Sullivan High School.
He was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder (nee manic depression). He had three marriages. The first one came in 1972, when he married Nalani Kele. His second wife, Marie Musso, was the daughter of Las Vegas-based musician Vido Musso.
Career
He began his comedy career at the Prevue Lounge in New Orleans, Louisiana, mob-run nightclubs in Chicago, showrooms in Miami and Lake Tahoe before an agent convinced him to relocate to Las Vegas in 1954.
Greene is most famous for appearing alongside Frank Sinatra and Richard Conte in “Tony Rome”, a 1967 film directed by Gordon Douglas.
He also appeared in TV series such as “The A Team” in the 1980s.
Honors
He was named Best Lounge Entertainer at the Las Vegas Entertainment Awards.
Trivia
