Sherman Hemsley acted professionally for 43 years: from 1968 to 2011. Like many actors, he began his career on stage before his transition to screen acting.
He rose to fame in the 1970s and 1980s while portraying George Jefferson in two television sitcoms: “All in the Family” (1973-1978) and “The Jeffersons” (1975-1985).
He is also known for his role as Deacon Ernest Frye on the sitcom, “Amen”.
