About Shirin Ebadi
Shirin Ebadi is recognized in Iran as the first woman to ever become a judge in the country. The former judge is also known for her work as a lawyer, political activist and human rights activist. She is a global icon due to her work as a champion of human rights (especially on the rights of children, women and refugees). Through Western-backed funding, she established the Defenders of Human Rights Center in her home country. She has received several international honors for her activism.
Family Life
Her father, Mohammad Ali Ebadi was a commercial law lecturer. She was raised along with two sisters and a brother in Tehran, Iran.
Achievements
She was a recipient of the 2003 Nobel Peace Prize. Other notable honors are the Rafto Prize, the Legion of Honour and the JPM Interfaith Award.
