About Shirley Jackson
Shirley Jackson’s rise to prominence started in 1948 when she published her first novel entitled “The Road Through the Wall”. Famously known for her mystery and horror works, the highly-rated San Francisco-born writer published over two hundred short stories, and six novels throughout her career which lasted for more than 20 years.
Some of her popular works were titled “The Bird's Nest”, “The Lottery and Other Stories” and “The Haunting of Hill House”.
Personal Life
Her parents were Geraldine Bugby and Leslie Jackson. She was the wife of Stanley Edgar Hyman whom she got married to in 1940. The couple were blessed with four kids named Barry, Laurence, Sarah, and Joanne.
Education
She studied at Burlingame High School and continued at Brighton High School. She read journalism at the University of Rochester. He later graduated from Syracuse University.
Awards
Jackson was decorated with many awards including the Edgar Allan Poe Award. In her honor, The Shirley Jackson Award was created in 2007 to reward writers of horror and mystery stories.
