Shivaji was an Indian warrior king known as the historical founder of the Maratha kingdom of India. He was the first Sovereign (Chhatrapati) of the Maratha kingdom. He reigned as Chhatrapati from 1674 until his death 1680. He was succeeded by his elder son Sambhaji.
He was the son of Shahaji Bhonsle and Jijabai. He had several wives, including Soyarabai and Putalabai. He also had numerous children. The most famous of his children were his sons Sambhaji and Rajaram.
After his death, there were rumors that he died of a curse. There were also rumors that his second wife, Soyarabai poisoned him so that their ten-year-old son could succeed him.
