About Siegfried Lenz
He was a German literary icon who was a writer and novelist.
Personal Life
Born to a customs officer, Siegfried was well educated and studied at the University of Hamburg before he got into the Kriegsmarine which was the German navy. In university, he studied literary history, philosophy and English. When he was just a teenager, he became a member of the Nazi Party even though he stated that he had been made a member of the party without his knowledge. He met and got married to Liselotte and stayed married to her for almost six decades but in the fifty seventh year of their marriage, she passed away. He went ahead to get married to Ula who was seventy-four at the time.
Career
He got a job as an interpreter for the British army then became an editor for the Die Welt newspaper. When he made enough money, he started putting together his first novel and continued from there. Some of his works are “Es waren Habichte in der Luft” and “Der Geist der Mirabelle: Geschichten aus Bollerup”.
Death
In October 2014, he passed away in his late eighties.
