Simone de Beauvoir is best remembered for her 1949 book titled “The Second Sex”. The French existentialist, author, and social theorist was also credited for writing a number of books which includes “She Came to Stay” and “The Mandarins”.
Family
Her real name was Simone Marie Bertrand Beauvoir and she was raised by her parents called Françoise and Georges Bertrand Beauvoir. Her junior sister was a painter called Hélène. She was married to novelist Jean-Paul Sartre. Her daughter is called Sylvie Le Bon-de Beauvoir.
Achievements
She received lots of accolades during her successful career. Some of her awards are “Jerusalem Prize”, “Prix Goncourt”, and “Austrian State Prize for European Literature”.
Trivia
In order to raise money for her writing career, she served as a lycée teacher in 1929.
