About Sonny Liston
Sonny Liston was an American professional boxer regarded as one of the greatest heavyweight boxers of all time. He won the world heavyweight champion title in 1962 after he defeated Floyd Patterson through a shocking knockout in only the first round of the fight. He was found dead in his Las Vegas home in 1971. Although the authorities declared that he died of a heroin overdose, there are many who believe he was murdered. At the time of his death he was set to fight George Chuvalo of Canada.
Personal Life
He was married to Geraldine Chambers from 1950 until his death in 1970. The couple adopted a child from Sweden. He also had a child from a past relationship.
Trivia
In his youth, he engaged in several criminal activities, including armed robbery. In 1950, he was sentenced to five years imprisonment for robbery. It was during his incarceration that he was introduced to boxing.
