About Sri Aurobindo
Sri Aurobindo was an Indian philosopher, maharishi, yogi and Indian nationalist. After his studies at King’s College in Cambridge, England, he returned to India in 1893 and found work in Baroda State Service. He eventually became involved in the Indian independence movement during which he was arrested for his activities as a member of the revolutionary organization, Anushilan Samiti. It was in 1908 when he was in jail that he first had spiritual and mystical experiences. Upon his release in 1909, he left politics to pursue spiritual work, developing the practise known as Integral Yoga in the process.
Family Life
He was the third of the five children of surgeon Krishna Dhun Ghose and his wife, Swarnalata Devi. He was the elder brother of revolutionary and journalist Barindra Kumar Gose and the younger brother of poet Manmohan Ghose. He was married to Mrinalini Devi from 1901 to 1918, when she died during the influenza pandemic.

He died on December 5, 1950.
