Early Life
Born into the famous Fox family that owned the giant motorcycle parts company, LeMans Corp, Stan Fox started racing as a midget car driver.
Career & Accolades
This Wisconsin native made his midget car racing debut in 1971. He won the 1979 and 1980 Belleville Nationals. He also won the 1979 Badger Midget championship.
He won the Copper World Midget division races in 1980, 1990, and 1993. He won the 1990 and 1991 Turkey Night Grand Prix.
Stan Fox made his debut in the Indianapolis 500 in 1984 and contested eight times.
Sadly, this daredevil was involved in a serious racing accident that ended his career when he collided with Eddie Cheever in 1995.
The shocking pictures from the accident scene showing Fox’s legs dangled from the wrecked car were seen across the racing world. He was in an induced coma for five days due to a severe head injury but eventually recovered.
Death
Fox was killed in a car accident while visiting friends in New Zealand in 2000.
