About Stan Laurel
Stan Laurel was an iconic English actor and comedian best remembered for teaming up with American comedian Oliver Hardy to form the legendary comedy duo Laurel and Hardy, who appeared in over 100 films, including 1934's Hollywood Party and 1939's The Flying Deuces. Prior to his teaming up with Hardy, he already had a well-established career as an actor and had appeared in over 50 films. He officially retired from the entertainment industry after Hardy's death in 1957.
Personal Life
He was married and divorced four times before his 1946 marriage to Ida Kitaeva Raphael. He remained married to Ida until his death in 1965. He fathered two children with his first wife Lois Neilson.
Achievements
In addition to being honored with a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame in 1960, he was also honored the following year with a Lifetime Achievement Academy Award for his pioneering work in motion picture comedy.
Trivia
According to his friends, he never fully recovered from the depression caused by the death of his good friend and comedy partner Oliver Hardy.
