About Stanley Biber
Dr. Stanely Biber is synonymous with “Sex-Change”. This Iowa-born skilled surgeon pioneered sex reassignment surgery in 1969. From wanting to be a rabbi, Biber paved the way for others to follow in breakthrough surgery.
Early Life
The only son of a Jewish furniture maker, Biber wanted to please his parents by becoming a rabbi but World War ll happened and he served as a civilian employee. He graduated from the University of Iowa medical school in 1948 and served as a chief surgeon during the Korean War.
Career
Biber performed his first gender reassignment surgery in 1969 when a friend of his who was living as a trans woman asked him for help. He performed it after studying at Johns Hopkins Hospital, soon he became renowned for this surgery and trans people from different parts of the United States went to Trinidad, Colorado to get their surgery done. Biber also trained numerous doctors on this surgery and eventually retired in 2003.
