About Stanley Williams
Stanley Tookie Williams III was well-known in the South Central Los Angeles area for being the co-founder and leader of the Crips gang. He had planned to use the gang to protect black people from racism. He garnered nationwide attention after he received a death sentence in 1979 for four counts of murder which happened in the course of two robberies.
Family Life
He was raised in Los Angeles, California, by his mother, Louisiana Williams after his father took off when he was only one year old. His mother was mostly away because she had to earn their keep, which meant Stanley growing up on the streets.
Murder Convictions, Appeals and Execution
Williams, throughout his trial for the murder of a 7-Eleven store employee and three members of a Taiwanese family that ran a hotel, maintained that he was innocent. After his sentence, he unsuccessfully tried to appeal. On December 12, 2005, his plea for clemency was denied by then-governor of California Arnold Schwarzenegger and he was executed by lethal injection the next day.
