About Stefan Edberg
Stefan Edberg started gaining attention in 1983 while playing at the junior stage. During that year, he won the division’s Grand Slam titles, becoming the first person to achieve that in recent times. He turned professional later that year and participated in the US Open.
Throughout his playing career, the Swedish former tennis star was victorious in 6 Grand Slam tournaments as a single player. He won both the Davis Cup, and the Championship Series on four separate occasions. In 1990, he was ranked number one on the ATP Rankings.
Coaching career
After retiring, Edberg decided to share his knowledge with the younger generation. In 2013, he was appointed the coach of tennis great Roger Federer.
Personal Life
He has been married to a lady known as Annette Hjort Olsen. Their children are called Christopher and Emilie.
Achievements
In 1990 and 1991, he was named the ATP Player of the Year. He was crowned ITF World Champion in 1991. By the end of 1995, he had won his fifth ATP Sportsmanship Award.
Trivia
He’s also a lover of soccer and known to be a fan of English team, Leeds United.
Before retiring, he was one of two tennis players in recent era to top the ATP Rankings for both the singles and doubles categories.
He was ranked in the top 10 for ten years in a row.
