About Stephen Geller
Stephen Geller is a well-acclaimed American screenwriter, author, and novelist. He is widely known for penning the screenplay for the popular film adaptation of “Slaughterhouse-Five,” – a novel by Kurt Vonnegut. In addition, he is noted for working on various projects in the film industry in Europe and Hollywood for over five decades.
Early Life & Education
He was raised in Hollywood, America, and Paris, France. Geller was educated at Yale University and Dartmouth College.
Career Highlights
Between 1969 and 1979, he worked in Rome, Italy, mainly under the famed Italian film producer Dino De Laurentiis. Additionally, he worked with other producers in the British, French, American, and Italian film industries. In the 1990s, he pioneered the screenwriting program at Boston University and Arizona State University.
His popular screenwriting credits include “Slaughterhouse-Five,” “The Valachi Papers,” “Mother’s Little Helpers,” “Warburg: A Man of Influence,” “Opportunities in Zero Gravity,” and “Ashanti.”
Aside from his screenwriting career, he has published more than ten novels and several books on screenwriting. As of August 2022, he was a teacher at Savannah College of Art and Design.
Controversies
During the “#OscarsSoWhite” controversies in 2016, he wrote a highly controversial letter dubbed “false flag issue,” which he addressed to Cheryl Boone Isaacs, elaborating that the Academy’s older members were responsible for the alleged bias.
