About Steve Cohen
After establishing his law company in the 1970s, Steve Cohen started his career as a lawyer. He went on to work with the Memphis Police Department as their legal advisor before starting his political journey at the age of 27. His first recognized position was as the vice president for Tennessee’s 1977 Constitutional Convention.
In 1982, he became a member of the Tennessee Senate and served in that position for over two decades. In 2007, a year after leaving office, he was sworn-in as the state’s ambassador to the United States House of Representatives.
Known for his association with the Democratic Party, Cohen has become popular for his stance on issues like the legalization of abortion and cannabis. He has also contributed to the development of civil rights and healthcare.

He was born to Morris David Cohen and his wife Genevieve Goldsand.

In 1971, he completed his education at Vanderbilt University. He later moved to the University of Memphis.
