About Steve McCurry
Iconic photographer and photojournalist Steve McCurry started taking an interest in the profession as a student of the Penn State University. Although he was a theater art major, he took photos for the school’s newspaper, “The Daily Collegian” and that is where his passion for the work started. His signature work, “Afghan Girl”, is a portrait of a girl (Sharbat Gula) with striking green eyes in a red headscarf, which he took during the Afghan War in 1985 as a photojournalist. It has won him several awards and brought him massive recognition.
Achievements
His awards received include the ‘Hasselblad Master Robert Capa Gold Medal’ for “Best Photography Reporting from Abroad”.
Trivia
McCurry grew up in Darby, Pennsylvania.
He joined the international photography cooperative, Magnum Photos as a member in 1986.
