Stewart Stern was an American screenwriter, best known for penning one of 1955’s hit films, “Rebel Without a Cause”. The said film catapulted actor James Dean to fame.
Early Years
Stern was born in New York City. After graduating from the University of Iowa, he enlisted in the US Army during World War II, where he was awarded a Purple Heart, Combat Infantry Badge, and a Bronze Star.
Works
Following his return from the war, Stern wrote “Rebel Without a Cause.” His other notable works include, “Sybil”, “The Rack”, “The James Dean Story”, “The Ugly American”, and “The Last Movie.” He appeared in the 1985 film “Fright Night.” Stern authored the book “No Tricks in My Pocket: Paul Newman Directs.”
Personal Life
Stern was married to Marilee Stiles Sterns from 1980 up until his death from cancer in 2015.
