About Subhas Chandra Bose
Subhas Chandra Bose was an Indian nationalist hailed as a national hero for his patriotism but later criticized for seeking help from Nazi Germany and Imperial Japan to free India from British rule. He is regarded as a major leader of Indian nationalism. He formed a Provisional Government of Free India and revamped the Indian National Army (INA) with the goal of liberating India militarily. His efforts, however, proved futile and he died at the age of 48 in a plane crash.
Family Life
He was the son of Prabhavati Devi and Janakinath Bose. He had 13 siblings. In 1937, he secretly “married” an Austrian named Emilie Schenkl without any ceremony or witness. He and Emilie had a daughter, Anita Bose Pfaff.
