About Sultan Kosen
Sultan Kösen instantly became famous in August 2009 when he was named as the World’s Tallest Man alive by the Guinness World Records. Standing at 251 centimetres (approximately 8 ft 2.8 in), the Turkish farmer overtook Chinese herdsman, Xishun Bao, who formerly held the record with his height of 236 cm. He has also been named the 7th tallest man in history.
Family Life
He is of Kurdish descent. His abnormal growth is the result of acromegaly, a condition brought on by a tumour in the pituitary gland. He and Merve Dibo, a Syrian woman, tied the knot in 2013.
Facts
The Medical School of the University of Virginia performed radiosurgery on him and put him on medication from 2010. The aim was to put his growth hormones under control. In March 2012, it was reported that his growth had been successfully halted by the treatment.
